TF-999 Leaking from Shift Lever/Kick Down

Well, I was going to change out the gasket/filter today (TF-999) since I did see a leak around the gasket. Upon further investigation I looked w/a flash light and I am seeing where the shift lever/kick down lever is mounted, the gasket is leaking. SO this is where my leak is coming from, nice bright red fluid.

Question: do I have to drain the pan to fix this, or can I just pull the levers. I'm thinking it is like a through bolt and needing to pull the pan to replace the gasket/ring for these levers.

I did come across the manual below but it really doesn't go into detail about this (unless I didn't see it). Looking at the picture, it looks like if things are unbolted from the top side it should slide out but I'm not sure if the GASKET is just on the top side or is there one on the inside as well.

    Any help would be appreciated,

    Thanks,
    Jim

It shows the seal for the "main valve lever" with an arrow from the top on an exploded view. I'll have to check it out to see if it actually comes from the top or from under inside the pan. To me and looking at diagrams like these, it should come from the top.

    Thanks again,
    Jim

This was sent from a friend of mine who own a tranny shop.

to remove and install seal without valve body removal :click:

i know you do not want to spend the $

    with v/b removal

    remove 10 bolts using a 7/16" socket

    1-2 accumulator & park rod

    park rod
must turn d/s to engage park and remove park rod with v/b from extension housing or fight with e-clip at v/b side not shown
    (do not remove extension housing)

use screw driver and knock seal out from pan side.
use a small slide hammer with washers to install seal if no room.

Well I picked up the seal from NAPA, and hopefully I can get to it next week. Real busy weekend coming up.

I'll try to post up some pics of the install if I can get my camera up in there.

Thanks for all the help so far,
    Jim

Seal replaced, bands tightened. Had to drop the valve body.
