    360 cam advice

I'm buying an AMC 360 with the below modifications because I'm getting a great deal on it and I'm helping out a friend. I'd like some advice for picking out a new cam for it - it's too hot for me as is. I plan to install this in my rock crawling Jeep so I want to create an engine with a smooth idle and great torque from idle up throughout the rpm range while retaining as much top end as I can. I want it to feel like a big block.

    Edelbrock Performer Intake
Harland Sharp 1.7:1 Roller Rockers with hardened guide plates
One piece .080" wall chromoly push rods
    Bored .030"
Ross 343 10:1 Forged Race Pistons
    heads slightly shaved
    Scat Forged H-Beam Rods
    Crank turned 10/10
    Clevit bearings throughout
    Comp Cams 280 K-kit (.49 lift w/ 1.7:1 rockers -->.52" lift)
    comp double roller timing chain
internal oiling mod allowing more oil to the ream main
    7.5qt oil pan
    bulltear oil mid plate
    HEI distributor, 8.8mm wires

    http://www.myspace.com/richfife/videos - a clip of it running.

What would you recommend to best turn this into a torque monster that will idle along happily all day crawling over rocks the size of buffalo without touching the gas, and still be capable of instant wheel speed when desired?

    Thanks

Too bad the rockers aren't easily changeable. I'd just go back to a 1.6 rocker and leave the rest alone. Drop on a 600 or 650 CFM carb (EFI would be better) and run with it. Compression is going to be more than 10:1 with 343 pistons and shaved heads, so premium or race gas is going to be a must to prevent pinging. If you change cams, look for something with lift in the .470-.480 range, duration 270-280, and a LSA of 110 for a smoother idle, taking into account the 1.7 rockers.

Call these guys- Engle Racing Cams

    Tel: (562) 232-7079
    Fax: (562) 232-7080

Tell them exactly what you have and what you want it to do. I got one of their cams in my 304 and it is a beast from 700-4000rpm's, really smooth idle and tons of torque

This cam has in my experience all the right inquirements for your application http://www.cranecams.com/product/car...detail&p=23753

Has worked very very well on my 360 in a Jeep
P.S I run roads lifters so that would maybe be a good choice in ( more low end tourqe )

I did find that the 112* LSA gave me a little wider power band and did smooth out the idle quite a bit compared to the eddy performer cam I started with, Never could get the engine to idle quite right with that cam for some reason, The engle was a night and day difference for me
