    Valve springs?

I am putting something together and I was wondering if the late model 360 heads with the factory exhaust valve rotators need aftermarket retainers to run non-stock valve springs. Can someone recommend a combination that requirtes no machine work? obviously i want to get rid of the rotators.

The heads with rotators may have used a thicker stem on the valve. They were only used in 73-74 is I recall. They can be eliminated, and a standard retainer used. You just need to get the correct lock for the valve diameter. I did it on the 73 heads on my CJ using Edelbrock springs and retainers.

They were something AMC thought would extend valve life as unleaded gas came into use. Yes, you can eliminate them. Should you, that's entirely up to you. AMC quit using them after a couple of years, so they probably provided little benefit for the cost. If you are going to the expense of having the heads redone at a shop, I probably would get rid of them.
