oil pump loses prime in a few hours

hi guys , thought i'd give you all a shot at this in case i'm missing something . heres my setup " aviad oil pan with external line going to bulltear oil plate , from there to canton remote filter mount , then back to bulltear plate and into engine , oil pressure is great after priming and running car , 23 psi hot at 900 rpm 60 at 3000 rpm , 10w 30 oil . I removed the oil pressure relief valve assembly and did notice the pin on the after market ones were thicker than the oem amc one I had lying around . so I cleaned the amc one and put it back in along with a new spring . I just primed the engine after filling oil pump with petroleum jelly . got instant oil pressure . will see if the valve was the problem . I have no leaks . if this doesn't work my research says to pull the pan and check pickup tube . any other ideas on what i'm missing ?? oil filter is mounted straight up and down so no worries on drain back . hope it was the valve , will check back in a few hours , thanks

well started her up and oil pressure is good , right at 75 -80 psi . a little high probably due to the jelly . i'll wait a few hours and restart to see if oil pump lost it's prime .

4 hours later and all is well , must have been that valve , oil pressure is 75- 80 cold and settles down to 25 when hot ( coolant at 180 degrees ) at 800 rpm . hope this helps someone .
