Im intersted to know If anyone is using a NP435 Behind an AMC Mill 232 258, 4.0 304 360, 401, and how its woking out, We all know of the T18 swap, is this any better or worse.
In general how did it work and how do you like it?

hey jessie a np435 is a great tranny but it had many versions some of which arent compatably with amc engine, meaning they dont make an adaptor for it, there is a guy running a dodge version, hes actually a member on this board jeepmaddness85 i think, if i spelled it right. he said he wouldnt go back to his t4, I dont blame him, his tranny has a wayyy low first gear

I was thinking, that The NP 435 was put into Fords and Dodges, so its more likely that i'd find one than the sought after T18. and Its got a deeper First gear.
I just see it as being a better alternative than the T150s and T4s that are in half of the Jeeps out there.

I have an 82 scrambler with a 97 4.0 with an np435. I also have a t18 in my 72 cj5 with chevy 400small block. I think the np435 shifts a little easier. They are both plentiful ford used these from the 70 to late 80's in f150's-2.5 ton dump trucks. The t18 was also used more frequently in the lighter trucks. which is stronger is a great debate. the np's have a 6.69 first vs. the 6.32 of the t18. I originally had a 258 with a t176. the np435 bolts right up to the t176 bellhousing stock clutch, arm, and i believe pilot but i changed this due to the 4.0 conversion. It is a nice three speed with a creeper gear. I wish I had overdrive but hey I didn't have the time or money for a nv4500 at the time. I would reccommend the swap. Give parts mike a call he can set you up. one other side note New Process became New Venture so the name and quality is there. If you ever have to tow this tranny pull the driveshaft or put it on a flatbed or you will burn it up quick.

Well ive been a user and abuser of the np435 for about 15 years now and i love it ! The novack kit i used is about 2 inches shorter then a comparable t18 kit so thats another plus too!

Ive got the ford 2wd version of the np435 and the dana 300 case.I used the Novack adapter as it is a little bit shorter then the AA adapter!As for the tranny itself it rocks and is strong as hell with the 6.67 gears in first gear and reverse! [/img]

i know this is an old post.. just wondering cjmike, if you had any problems with the clutch setup. not as far as what parts such as disc or pressure plate. mine sure seems to go through throw out bearings like it cool. its like the linkage dosen't have enough travel. set it up for free play and the transmission dosen't like to shift. make it a little tighter and throw out bearing starts to sing after 3oo 400 miles. just wondered if you had any adjust problems??
Buddy of mine has an 82' scram-bamin-jambler that we swapped a NP435 into......got it from a 79 f-350 and used an older bellhousing i had from a 77' cj-7 with a 3-spd?....anyways all we had to do was swap clutch disc due to the 82' being a 1 1/16"? input spline and ford being a 1 1/8" spline or vise-versa?? been since early summer so i don't remember details ......but we used the ford 205 t-case and a ford hi-pinion D60.......wrked great until he got stupid and wanted rockwell 2 1/2 tons, 44 boggers, and a ford 400.....

just had a thought.. could someone using a jeep setup check their mech clutch linkage.. it has a long ear and a short ear. which one goes to the pedal rod and which goes to the clutch fork rod.??
Long on pedal linkage side and short on clutch fork side i believe?
