Never heard of an AMC 23. Same bolt pattern is desired because I still will be driving this thing on the street after its SOA, so I would like to be able to carry one spare tire.

This is true of alot of jeepers but not amc mechanics, here is the breakdown

    AMC 15----smaller amc cars
    AMC 20-----Small jeeps
AMC 23----Full size jeeps 1 piece alxes, thicker tubes

It is everywhere that a FSJ's came with AMC20's.! To end the myth the FSJ NEVER EVER came with AMC 20's, well to some thats what they called them. To AMC factory workers this axle was called the AMC 23. I dont know why they called it a 23 because it is alot like the SWB 20 but my assumption is that it had 3 characteristics that set it apart form the 20
    1. thicker axle tubes
    2. one piece shafts
    3. Welded tubes (I think all where but i swear ive seen some without plug welds)

Again this is only speculation. AMC engineers

I did not know that.. I am smarter this week than I was last week. Cool.

I was thinking D60/D60, D44/D44, D44/14 Bolt, or D44/9". Since I will be driving this on the street still and running 35-37" tires is the reasoning for my axle selections.

    axles

hey jeepsr4ever, on these axles, would your friend settle for parting with just parts of the axles?
I need the spindles and backing plates to convert my W/T D44 from 6 to 8 lug. Wouldn't mind a good set of rotors/hubs either
    live with no regrets

Well hes a stingler when it comes to hard work, he will sell the whole axle but as far as pulling them apart, i suppose i could slaughter the tubes with a torch and you could grind out the centers from the knukcle and have everything from inner knuckle out.......but i dont really have alot of time for that, plus we are talking $150-200 for shipping
