The wimpiest of the wimps Edelbrock's SP2P

Here we see edelbrocks attempt at gas mileage brought on by the gas shortage of the 70's. This intake is almost worthless if it wasnt for its aluminum structure and its ability to offer a idle at a low low rpm. Look at those ports man!

Now look at the HUGE ports on this R4B !!! If youlook at the center bolt holes they are redrilled for use with later heads. WOW

Have you ever seen the Holley intake for our AMC's?

I think it was called the Z-series, or something.
Pretty much a SP2P, with the rear two ports connected by a long U shaped port at the back of the intake.

I think the ports were actually smaller than the SP2P's, though I never seen them both side by side.

For some reason there's a ton of SP2P's out there, they're kinda the Thornbirds of intakes

I actually had very great luck with thornies when they are cut, but in stock form yeah they suck....LOL

Ive seen the holley's...kinda rare. I believe that offy even had a small port AMC V8 intake.

it has ports like a torker and air gap

    best ever 11.669 @ 112.33 mph in 1/4 mile on 33 x 10.50 slicks and 4" lift / 7.358 @ 93.03 mph in the 1/8 mile

I have two of the Holley Dominator manifolds. Yep, the ports are smaller than the SP2P. Most folks just laugh when they see them, but my buddy is going to put one of them on his new 290 in his Commando. On that small-displacement motor in such a light vehicle, he ought to have great throttle response, and should be able to just motor through the bad terrain at around 500 RPM. Plus they look great, and were cheap!

    SP2P vs Performer for economy

I have a Performer on my 360 Jeep. Im always chasing more power from idle to 2500rpm and fuel economy. On paper the SP2P looks better with its longer smaller runners. Any opinions? Are there many around?

Welcome aboard!! Their are these around that are new...kyle johnson of edelbrock had sold about 350 new castings to private parties...problem is that they were all (from what i was told) 2nd grade castings and now machined well. The problem with the sp2p is that you run into a lean condition. This can be solved by running premium in engines with a compression that is less than 9-1.

I've already upped the compression by using smaller chamber heads and the motor pings if I get it too hot, so the SP2P might not be the go. The Aussie dollar has died again against the greenback and I live in a remote area where fuel is very expensive. Trying to avoid using premium. Actually the AMC performer's ports look smaller than the small block Chevy performer's ports.
