    Sk8terwill's 00TJ Fixes and Mods

    Welcome to my thread

    - Page One, Broken Pinion -

I'd been having some issues with my TJ. Almost like the sound you'd get when you put a card in bike spokes as a kid.
It didn't have anything to do with the engine because when I rev'd in neutral it sounded clean, it also hadn't (until recently) made any noise when just coasting. On my way to work one night it wasn't very noticable until somewhere half way between home and work it got really loud and had me questioning weather or not it would make it the rest of the way. It almost sounded like a diesel except it wasn't comming from the engine and I only heard it when I put it in gear and gave it gas, really quiet when coasting but it was still there.

Check your fluid levels, your tcase has a chain and can sometimes sound harsh when ran dry

If you still have the stock exhaust manifold (on a older tj) chances are it is cracked, or broke and that can make some really wierd sounds rattling around..
