    Hrmmm "Stupid question"

My lil brother just changed his torque convertor. He installed a new to him "Junk-yard gem" but he didn't fill it with trans fluid any chance of damage to it? He now gets this lovly high-speed clanging sound when he is in gear, sometimes. Any suggestions? The noise stops if he puts it in nuetral then back in gear,or just lets off then gasses it again. Are the bolts for the torque convertor unique?
