    dana 30 initial pinion shim thickness

    I got the model 20 setup perfect on first try now its time to set up the dana 30 front diff, I made the mistake of not recording pinion shim thickness is there a known starting thickness? thanks I am changing gears and bearings oh its a 1976 cj5 thanks in advance!

    No set starting point. You might put the pinion in with no shims and find a shop with a depth gauge. They can measure it and tell you what to add.

    I have one, and it's paid for itself in time saved.

    I'd start somewhere between .020" and .030", and work from there if you want to go with trial and error.
