91-95 Jeep gas tank

This was posted on the FL Jeepers board - seems strange Jeep would limit the size of a gas tank this way??

did the mod to a 1992 YJ and it became a 22 gallon tank. The fuel gauge does not read ontil it gets to the original fill point but it is a nice easy modification

Cool, but still don't know why Jeep would cripple a tank on purpose?? Guess I need to start looking for a later model tank to put in the 87

So they could have the option of 2 different tank sizes and charge 2 different prices
