Here We show a AMC 360 crank (was badly worn and .03 over) Cut in 3 sections. I have been recieving emails about MAX bearing thickness and going under with the crank............ex. .010 rods .010 mains. The Cast srank you see here is a common AMC V8 360 crank found in almost all 360's. Grinding the crank makes the journal smaller and also puts it into spec for a common bearing size while offering a good uniform finish for the least amount of friction. Max grind should be .03 on a cast crank ONLY because the bearings only are made for a maximun of .03. Cast cranks tweak and give and are a good crank for most applications. Forged cranks offer a harder tougher casting and tweak under pressure alot less than cast, Again here .03 for a maximum grind. When you get a crank shaft ground MAKE SURE you clean out the oiling holes as the crankshaft grinder leaves grindings in the holes 90% of the time (at least what we have seen). We have seen .001-.003 oversize crank bearings for OEM applications and warrantee work. Here are the pics, note the thickness of the cross sections~
