need help with valve spring retainers. (pics)

i got my 360 from arizona engine. well, one head had 1 style of valve spring retainer and the other head had another style.

i have a 1979 tech. service manual it says that the installed spring height should be at 1.7 it listed the spec for v-8 engines (not specific).

take a look at the pics and let me know what you think what retainers should i use? i will need a set of 8 to match with whatever set i decide. does anyone have the spec for 360?

It looks like someone installed heavier springs and probly had the chamfered retainers on the intake only...or was it on the complete head.

the chamfered retainers were all on one head while the other flat tops were on one head. i figured i would check it out while i was replacing the valve springs (new).

the heads appear identical in every respect. i have not looked at the casting numbers to verify (slipped my mind) the reatiners dont have a number on them.

all the valves match in overall length and in installed height oh yeah and in size too.

i have a couple of heads shops here local i can prob get retainers (although they are not kind in offering suggestions of advice, i figure that i could bring in what ever retainer i am going to use and say i need 8 more.

    ideas?

You can still buy these retainers for AMC V8 heads. Ask your rebuilder or speed shop.

i may go that route, except i dont really know what is supposed to be on them, maybe the dealership would have the spec on what the installed height SHOULD be.

I would say the spring height should be answered by the maker of the spring and what height to set them at to keep the lbs. of the springs right

    best ever 11.669 @ 112.33 mph in 1/4 mile on 33 x 10.50 slicks and 4" lift / 7.358 @ 93.03 mph in the 1/8 mile
