Did you use Ross Forged Pistons ?
What's the Piston to Bore Clearance ?
( ref other posting about piston galling )
WOOOHOOOO
congrats
I used the pistons that it came with from AMCOriginally Posted by AMX69PHATTY
It's a stock '76 motor with a torker, a cam of unknown lift/duration (270H?) Mallory Unilite, Accel Supercoil, Hedman headers. It was in a pretty thrashed Waggie (whose ultimate fate has yet to be decided), but it ran good, and the mains plastigaged ~.003", so into the Rebel it went.

he he he - cool
got any pics of the AMC Chevelle .......... er ............ Rebel ?
Have ya got a Holley Double Pumper on it ?
What's the gear ? 3.15 ?
Sounds cool, always wanted one.
Back in the late 80's I got a '73 401 Ambassodor Wagon for $325 !
Ran great, drove it home, eventually pirated the 401 & 727.
I'm using a 750 vacuum secondary Holley, I have an 850 PP in the garage that I need to go through.

with the way your dogs are standing in that pic it looks like one of those new breeds
an assithound
J/K
I run an 850 DP on my AMX.
Do you mess with'em much?
Seems getting the secondary Idle screw set is a big part of making'em work right.
But it's a pain cause it's like a set screw that goes in from the bottom.
Jegs / Summit now sell a piece that allows adjustment from the top where it should be.
Ounce the timing is set, I adjust the primary Idle screw to about 1-1/4 turns off of closed.
Then set the final idle speed with the secondary idle screw.
It seems they work better if niether is open too little or too far.
You ever tweaked around with this ? A 401 Rebel is cool.
Once ya get it going be sure to post a big smokey burnout pic.
My 850 has two metering blocks, and four idle screws arranged around the sides, this is the first one I've had, so it is new to me.
